Both in my opinion are amazing. But as far as innovation, and (personally) tone, Carter is the best.

I disagree, I thought JR was on the edge the entire time! name one standard lick that he didn't tweak. Even the Coltrane 2-5 at the start of his solo is tweaked. Besides... it's a blues: part of the deep roots of (african)-American music. given that it's 1 of the most played musical forms in the US, I think they did great!

Love the dialogue guys! It keeps Jazz alive BUT the circular breathing thing is just a technique. It doesn't belong to any particular player ESPECIALLY the nameless one... whose name I will not utter on a forum with real Jazz players and listeners! haha
