honestly the only thing special about Texas, is that its 'Texas'. the topography is only interesting in the Big Bend. this coming from a native... but hey a good song.

I lived in Houston for years, and vacation when I can. We've got a sayin' "You can always tell a Texas, but you can't tell him much!"

I'm moving back to Texas in 7 days...there is no place like it on earth and I can't wait to get back!

Neat. FWIW, took my (then 12 year-old) daughter to see Lyle in Princeton NJ's McCarter Theater a few years back. All night long, Lyle shared the stage with John Hiatt, Joe Ely and Guy Clark... they did their own songs, and sometimes each others'. So much talent on one stage -- a night for the ages!!!

Compaq, Dell, Texas Intruments,Nasa, etc etc. As far as I can tell, Lyle isn't making any political statement except the "Texas wants you anyway" Lighten up, Pahdna!

Saw Lyle playing at The Backyard in Austin, TX on a rainy day about 8 years ago. It was so wet they worried for the safety of the musicians, but he came out and played acoustically for about an hour to a very attentive crowd, and came back the next Monday for a full on 2 hour show. He's as classy as they get. He did "Texas" acoustically, and brought down the house.

vanostranll seems to have forgotten all of the contributions Texas industry and Science has made to society...like the computers that NASA (in Houston, TX) built, Jack Kilby's invention of the integrated circuit, and companies like Texas Instruments. If we draw lines through humanity, we'll spend eternity bickering. Folks can be proud of Texas and that still not detract from the accomplishments of Illinoisans, New Yorkers, or any other northern state. New Jersey, though...that's another story.
