I don't know if you mean people not as old as coltrane or if you mean nu-jazz artists but i'll give you some names
Joshua redman is really good I'd suggest "moodswing" his self titles album or either of the elastic band albums
Chris potter is also really good, The "follow the red line concert" is absolutely rediculous. and the "lift" concert is also really good
For funk John scofield is never a bad choice "uberjam" or "bump" are good choices
Return to Forever is a good band too
