I disagree my friends, the "vibrating" R sounds MUUUUCH better, and is often used in Opera, 'cause the normal sound of the french R is changed for the spanish pronunciation of the R.

In this opera, the R's can't be pronounced like in normal french, because the sound of the sentence would be affected by this.

Her voice is decent, but she doesn't compare to Callas. The reason Callas sounds so pitchy and harsh is because of the recording equipment back then. In a sense, it was a bit more crude with regards to sound capture and reproduction. This Gheorghiu recording has been touched up in a studio, so don't perceive her as being a better singer based on this performance. Also, she might sound nice, but she's mutilating French.

Someone should tell her her French really sucks.

I much prefer this woman to Maria Callas, her voice flows so much smoother. Callas' voice was harsher, jumping from pitch to pitch in an almost painful way. Gheorghiu has the same amount of attitude, but it so much easier to listen to.
