You're totally right! I can speak some French and when I try to translate something into English, it's kind of hard becos sometimes there are expressions that you can't really communicate into English. And ya, being a translator is a hard job, I mean even subtitles in films don't get the exact translation.

You're right, really, about the translator. It's a hard job and I don't get why people are bashing on her. But saying that German and English are so similar that you can understand one if you know the other is funny. I am Croatian and I learn both at school. They're barely alike. :)

I don't exactly think Stephenie speaks German (maybe she does), but this is called "Media Interpreting," where this is done simultaneously. The interpreter sits in a sound proof booth where they can see the speaker on a TV monitor and then they interpret what they hear on the TV monitor to the person being interviewed (musician, actor, etc) who is wearing earphones, listening. That's probably how Stephenie knows how to answer. I've seen it done with Jared Leto on a French interview on Canal +
