I like guns, swords, and other weapons. However I do think that there should be limits on guns and other weapons to keep them out of the wrong hands.
Guns dont kill people, people do.

i think that it states fairly unequivocally in the 2nd amendment that we have the right to bear arms. i also think that strict gun control is only a hindrance to protection in society. criminals, by definition, are going to break the law. strict gun control will not apply to them, because they are above the law. x criminal with a gun walks up to x citizen with no gun (reason: strict gun control). x citizen doesn't have the opportunity to defend himself appropriately because of gun control.

This is insane. The police can't teleport into your house while your wife and daughter are being raped and killed. Oh, you can throw your orb at them, that'll do it! This is facist talk.

You cannot break into a strong man's house, first you must disarm him...
Go ahead and let our government disarm the people and see just how far they will go with our rights and freedoms...
If our government is willing to use it's might to impose it's philosophies all over the world what makes anyone think they wont do the same at home?
"People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both."

According to a 1997 study by stats Canada:
2.3% of Canadian households have 1 or more handguns
25.12% of American households have 1 or more handguns
According to a 1998 study by the International Journal of Epidemiology:
In Canada, 35% of homicides are by firearm
and 28% of suicides are by firearm
In the US, 65% of homicides are by firearm
and 61% of suicides are by firearm
The US has 2.6x more homicides than Canada
Canada has 1.06x more suicides than the US
All stats here are rounded ;)

I think that the founding fathers meant the 2nd as an analogy meaning that like the state, (which needs a regulated militia for it's defense) a person's right to also protect their Self shall not be obstructed by law.

Guns are only bad in the hands of someone who has intent to use it for a bad thing, or someone who has an anger problem that may cause them to use said gun over-readily.
Now, there is a great base of families in the US that have a tradition of using guns for recreation. (Not hurting other people for recreation, but maybe hurting animals) That's what they do for fun. Some people play music, some surf or skate, these people shoot their guns. These people are law-abiding citizens that deserve guns.

Guns are bad but gun control won't solve anything. People that are robbing banks etc are already committing such severe crimes they aren't going to care about any additional years in jail, because they pretty much know if they get caught their fucked, so they just think well I won't get caught. I for one would feel extremely uneasy if I wasn't allowed to own a gun and keep it in my house just for self defense, because I know criminals won't respect the law (hint thats why they are criminals).

Good luck getting rid of all those evil guns in the world. Guns are here and they're not going away. Just look at how well drug prohibition works to get an idea what gun prohibition would look like.

Easy solution. Farmer Brown doesn't kill people with his guns. Simply ban all ex-felons, thugs, or dudes with do-rags and gang colors from buying guns. Allow the gun shop owners to refuse service to anyone they choose and hope they aren't greedy. |
