An absolute embarassment. I will never forget a NORMA where she uttered, "O mia Clotildee". There was some sort of a voice there --- just with a gigantic hole in the middle and horrendous Italian. She had a top and a bottom and this big hole inbetween. I have never heard Madame Verrett's Liebestod live and happy to not have. Birgit and Kirsten will suit me just fine. Just to name 2.

Shirley Verrett had the same cold for 20 years. With the exception of James McCracken, she had just about the worst Italian of any major singer on the international circuit in my lifetime.

All 5 dollars? That's about what I would pay.

No. Waltraud Meier is long past her prime, if that's what you choose to call it. Not only do we NOT have any dramatic mezzo, we don't have any lyric spintos, nor any tenors worth any more effort that it takes to spread cheese on ritz cracker - the cheese spread is more interesting.

I'm feelin' it too Mropera. Looks like we're the only two here willing to be honest.

Well, it IS how the composer intended it to be sung.

Well, Dolora Zajick, who reigns in the Verdian dramatic mezzo repertoire. I am not sure if she has ever sang Wagner before.
