Part 4 of episode 2 of The Science of Storm Chasing. *UPDATED INFORMATION* The TIV crew takes precautions to help ensure their safety. In addition to using data from their instruments and those of other chasers to gauge the strength of the storm, they wear helmets and goggles during their intercept attempts. A worst case scenario for the chase crew would include: A rapidly strengthening tornado, or wind speeds much higher than those recorded on the TIV instruments or estimated based on other chasers' data An impact from the most powerful part of the funnel A broadside impact, where the surface area of the TIV is greatest With these factors present, a tornado could theoretically lift or move the TIV, or pull it apart.

"w\o getting his scientific instruments into the center of a tornado, josh will never get the data he needs to prevent destruction like this." ....okay, i doubt that even if he does manage to do so, the ability to prevent damage like 'that' of destructive tornadoes just isn't possible unless a tornado is to hit a populated area which is "tornado proof", and that just isn't reality! ....not yet anyhow.

Looks like this program (a few episodes) has been running in the States for some months already. Here in the Netherlands it has just started and tomorrow is the third and final episode of this magnificent documentary again. However I hate it that they state that it's a very new documentary while it's actually been broadcasted months ago already somewhere else on the world :p

The scariest part of all this is that with the way our planet is changing, from an atmosphere standpoint, tornadoes will become bigger and stronger within the next few decades. I mean imagine it, a tornado that is MILES wide, not just a mile, and winds at a number that would tear the ground up all the way to the bedrock; anything in its way would cease to exhist entirely, the word "debris" would not play into describing what it leaves behind.
