I wish there were more videos with Mr. Jamerson. He is so amazing and I'm sure his playing got into mine. His phrasing and taste was so perfect, relaxed and just cool. threeblack cats, that was so awesome of you. how can I reach her?

Gordy was a genius. I just don't like the pimp aspect of his game. Most of his artists felt robbed after leaving Motown. I will always love Motown, and some aspects of G-Man's talents. If it were not for the Funk Brothers movie, I would have never heard of them.
What a shame.

I love Berry Gordy, Jr, the producer. What I don't like is that so many people who contributed to the Motown Legacy (and his bottom line!), ended up flat broke. My heart still bleeds for the late Florence Ballard and her three children (surviving on welfare!). He had an ability to spot genius, and revive old hits by black artists that, without some of his acts covering them, would more than likely have languished in obscurity. "Rockin' Robin" is a good example.

This is an amazing song with only vocals and bass. what a special player

He is my favorite bass player too. However, the "one finger" thing was just a habit he picked up. Through lots of practice and repetition, he got good playing that way.

You are right sir. They just don't have the rhythm that he did. He only played with one finger at all times aswell! GENIUS!

Berry Gordy is a crackhead pimp-Jerkoff in the same category as Don "the crackhead" King!! Ask musicians who worked for Motown..I have donated money to James Jamersons widow who lives in New Jersey. She mailed me a thank you note WITH a T-shirt of James holding his precision Bass. Other admirers of James should do the same. Gordy is living quite comfortably and not having to rely on donations to survive!! |
