LOL ... Yeah I THOUGHT I was a big guy (6'0" 225 lbs) but I don't think any of those girls would be at all impressed by me in the weight room (size wise or what I lift). If I had the share the gym with anyone I would find out when the golf or bowling team was working out, rather than being embarrassed by the volleyball players.
NUMBA1PROSPECT (July 13, 2008 at 4:17 pm)
Yeah I would hate to share the same gym hour with them. I recall hearing Gates does squat reps with 270 which is tough shit. I'm surprised at those numbers for the other player. They arent even all that bulky in person. They're packin a lot in the height department tho. IMO any gal who can outlift me, bench or squat me (166) or can eat dinner off of my head would be pretty damn scary

Amanda Gates IS very strong .....not sure exactly what her max's are but it's more than most males. Houghtelling actually stopped heavy lifting a few years ago, she's had some knee problems, and she can build up her leg muscles without much work so she does more high reps... but I heard she used squat 330lbs.
She's also had shoulder problems and never max's out on bench anymore either. I think she benched 250 after he Sophomore year. I'm a fairly big guy and she made me feel like a weakling!
NUMBA1PROSPECT (July 12, 2008 at 7:24 pm)
how much does she squat and leg press. I had thought Gates was the strong one?

The truth is it's difficult to do anything impressive nowadays without arousing steriod suspicions ... that's why it's hurtful when people (especially females) are not given the benefit of the doubt. But believe me ... top tier programs take the biggest, strongest girls in the country and then train the hell out of them. Can't say there are NO steroids in v-ball, but that never has been part of the program.
As for you ... I'm impressed and will not mess with you!

I didnt know the girls would have personal acquaintances watching this. Unlike you I'm not used to seeing gals that look like that so excuse me. And those numbers you provided just confirms how suspiciously strong they are. Since we are talkin stats. Not to brag but I'm 5'8, run the 1/2 mile in 1.52, a 4.04 mile and squat 265 even with a tender knee. i'd like to see any of those 'buffed out' nebraska volley chick move like that
wjb4341 (July 7, 2008 at 4:53 am)
Well then why not just say they look big, intense and imposing? That would be a nuetral, true statement. Using the term steroids is a cheap shot. A girl like Chris Houghtelling is 6'2", 190lbs, can dunk a basketball, bench press 250lbs and puts most male athletes to shame ... she is in the top 1% of female athletes but that is who elite level volleyball players are. Glad you like being "lean and natural"...but for some girls "buffed out and the strongest athlete in the gym" is what's natural.
MajestyQuickness (July 6, 2008 at 10:34 pm)
I was talkin about the Nebraska team. It's just an observation. I mean just look how big, intense and imposng they look. I could care less if they've better size than me. Maybe I like being lean and natural |
