i used isopropol alcohol and it works but the thing is it depends greatly on two things pain tolerance and calluses so the first time i made relatively small fireballs and they did not hurt but the second time my fireball was not a ball but a bit lopsided so it hurt a bit but as I kept it moving it didn't hurt and never hurt on the areas of my hand with calluses so basically i used alcohol and the flame was a bit smaller but it wont set things on fire as fast so you have time to pick it up
