Oh richardtheconquerer, when did Cobb try and intentionally hurt the members of the other team? Sure he got into fights, as all players back then did, but are you alluding to him intentionally spiking opposing players? Because if you weren't an idiot and knew what you were talking about, you'd know that Cobb NEVER intentionally spiked another player. All he was trying to do was hit the glove and knock the ball out.

Wow the clear lack of knowledge on here amazes me. About Cobb attacking a "cripple" in the stands. The man wasn't crippled. First he was harrassing Cobb and Cobb asked the usher's to remove him, they refused. Then Cobb choose to ignore him as best he could. It wasn't until Sam Crawford went up to Cobb in the dogout and told him to take care of business and that the team would have his back. After Cobb went in the stands and deservedly beat his ass his teammates lined the field with bats.

I'm sure Detroit tried to ship Cobb elsewhere. No one else wanted him though until the end of his career. Jacob Ruppert coveted Ruth for years, and made Frazee an offer he couldn't refuse.

Yeah, he just jumped cripples in the crowd instead

Cobb was a miserable clubhouse presence. But I don't think Cobb ever jumped the team. Ruth walked out twice after arguments with the team manager. After the second time, Harry Frazee finally succumbed to Jacob Ruppert's offer to buy Ruth after the second offense.

Not sure the point of this comment. Cobb had to be the biggest pain ever since he tried to intentionally hurt every member of the other team and was a miserable son of a bitch

He does have that old-school philosophy about walks being a disgrace. It explains the astronomical hit totals. I admire Rickey Henderson more and more because of this. He's towards the top all-time in walks and had over 3,000 hits as well. Not to mention lead off HRs and the stolen bases.

Read Red Sox Century. It talks about the truth about Ruth's sale. Frazee was never in any financial trouble and died a wealthy man. Ruth was just a nightmare for the manager (always was in New York too). A friend of mine made a good point in 2004: Which team would Ruth have fit in better with anyway: The Idiots or the Corporate Yanks?
richardtheconquerer (July 21, 2008 at 11:17 pm)
That is one thing I do agree on. There's no reason why Ruth would curse the team that made him the most famous player ever.

Ichiro sees less pitches per plate appearance than the average hitter does, so evidently he doesn't work the count that well.
