Good point. I have had many times that my bank has made it difficult to remove large chunks under some "security" excuse.

What a lot of criminals do is get a job as a cashier and keep a portable magnetic strip reader writer at the register. When someone hands them a card they first scan it on the portable read(maybe under the counter) and then on the actual reader for the store. They then go home and apply for similar credit cards and when they receive them in the mail they replace the data with your's, thereby having charging from you're account without your knowledge.
