this is terrific. powell's recorded output during this period is so erratic that it's always a nice surprise to hear him play really well as he does here.

the biggest thing that screwed up Bud is when he was committed. they put him on all of these psychotropic drugs and gave him shock treatments - after that he was never the same -Miles mentions it in his autobiography

AND he was only about 16 at this time, a true prodigy. Here he's good but would become about 10 times better.
