I am a pentecostal and I believe that God can and will do anything. The Word teaches us to use wisdom in all things. Picking up snakes is not the wise thing to do. I believe that this is a misinterpetation of the scripture.

The truth about snake handling! Part 4
Strong's Greek / Hebrew translation for key words in this scripture: take up - to put away from or remove; serpents - a type of sly, cunning, or malicious person; new tongues - a language not acquired or learned; drink - to ingest in your mind; deadly thing - something someone said intending to do harm or have negative motives.

The truth about snake handling! Part 3
- demonic spirits, not handling reptiles. Drink deadly things - refers to accidental ingestion of a poison. People interpret scripture in one of 4 ways: Literally - strictly adhering to basic meaning of a word. Figuratively - using or containing a non-literal sense of the word. Exaggerated - made to seem better, worse, larger, or more important than is true. Translation of the original text correctly as it was written and in the right context as presented.

The truth about snake handling! Part 2
The amplified Bible translates these scriptures: "And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out devils; they shall speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents; and even if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well." Expositor's definitions: Cast out devils - refers to casting out demons (fallen angels). Take up serpents - refers to putting away

The truth about snake handling! Part 1
As a Pentecostal! I will give you the truth from God's word on this matter.
The common reference verses are found in Mark 16:17-18, which by the King James version of the Bible says, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; Inmy name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover."

Dancing with dangerous snakes wrapped around the arms is not faith but stupidity. Ignoring commonsense by recklessly handling venomous snakes is not loving God; it mocks God. It mocks God because it's engaging in behavior that is in mocking contradiction to the good sense He has granted humans. Even a jungle ape knows better than to play with a venomous snake. Xianity is an ignorant superstition;nothing makes that more clear than the snake-handling tradition.
