"Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean....." That's all I found with this video. If anybody has details about what really happened, I'm sure we'd all be curious to know. Either way, plenty of footage here to entertain then bore you. Oh and thanks to the folks who've been posting this in other forums; hopefully with enough circulation we'll find someone with the (true) inside scoop.

AMA/AMD from f-16 net: Acceleration Monitoring Assembly/Acceleration Monitoring Device. Today they are primarily used for training, you may see them painted orange, this allows for enhanced visibility during air to air combat training missions. They are only used in training, not combat. No electrical connections are made between the pod and the aircraft. You're right there is very limited info on the net about these devices. Some people consider them as a device for symmetrical wing loading.

At 1:16 if you pause it at just the right time, you can see that the left missile has no fins on the front of it. This is actually an AMA or AMD pod not a missile. At 4:14 and 4:30 you can see the one on the right wing has fins on the front. This is either a real aim-9 or just a captive air training missile (CATM). Unfortunately, we can't see what color the band on it is which is the important thing. CATMs can have grey or blue bodies.I think CATM.Why would an alert launch with just 1 live misl?

Were you guys in restricted airspace???
aflack (July 16, 2008 at 8:00 pm)
well of course when they are allowed to. they cant fly over the sound barrier except in a few areas inside the U.S.
aflack (July 16, 2008 at 7:59 pm)
oops. Typo. One thing that has always bugged me as ground crew is that the FAA doesnt fine them the cost of fuel for two f-16s. Slap a couple 5 possibly 6 digit fines on them would cause things to calm down a lil bit and I might actually get some sleep at night when I am on alert!
