The Big Tornadoes - Part 1

This is part one of three of the video "The Big Tornadoes" (that's not its original name, for whatever reason the producers of this videotape decided to rename it. The original title of this video was "Terrible Tuesday" and was made in 1984). This is a tornado safety film that focuses on the Wichita Falls, Texas tornado that occurred on April 10, 1979. This was an F4 tornado that was nearly a mile and a half wide. Part one of this video shows some footage of the actual tornado (along with some stock footage of other tornadoes thrown in for dramatic effect) along with survivor accounts and an overview of how Wichita Falls handles a disaster. One of the survivors who is telling his story unwittingly started the deadly myth that hiding under a highway overpass during a tornado will protect you. Anticyclonic also has a Wichita Falls tornado video, which has some rarely seen footage at the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... I am going to attempt to identify all of the tornadoes used in this video. If I'm not 100% sure about a tornado I will add two question marks (??) to the right of it. If anyone knows which tornadoes those are, or if I've labeled any of the tornadoes wrong, please let me know so I can correct/update it. 0:58-1:00 Waurika, OK 5/30/1976 ?? 1:01-1:07 Cordell, OK 5/22/1981 1:07-1:09 Alfalfa, OK #2 5/22/1981 1:09-1:12 Orienta, OK 5/2/1979 1:12-1:17 Topeka, KS 6/8/1966 1:17-1:20 Pampa, TX 5/19/1982 1:21-1:23 Alfalfa, OK #1 5/22/1981 1:23-1:28 Ash Valley, KS 8/30/1974 1:38-1:40 Dallas, TX 4/2/1957 1:41-1:42 Union City, OK 5/24/1973 1:42-1:46 Lindsborg/Salina, KS 9/25/1973 1:46-1:49 Jordan, IA 6/13/1976 2:00-2:04 Wichita Falls, TX 4/10/1979 2:04-2:16 Alfalfa, OK #2 5/22/1981 3:04-3:14 Wichita Falls, TX 4/10/1979 3:14-3:19 Binger, OK 5/22/1981 4:44-5:07 Wichita Falls, TX 4/10/1979 6:21-6:28 Xenia, OH 4/3/1974 The picture quality isn't the best because the videotape I captured this from is over ten years old and is quite worn, plus it runs in EP mode. I've cleaned up the video and sharpened it a little but the image quality is still rather poor. Also some of the footage was very dark and hard to see so I've brightened up the picture as much as possible without completely washing it out.

wow, biggest armpit blowing shit I ever seen. it is a good thing I live in north carolina where that fuck does not comes to me. Though we have quite a few tornado warnings. and when I was in elementary school, their was a big dust devil that blew rocks and leavs and piced up my freind. cool ride and wind, little injuries though I was too big for that hair dryer anyways.

I hear what you guys are saying but...I have had a huge tornado run up the ditch on me. There I was in the ditch and I looked up an there it was right behind me. It just happened to lift before it got to me. I have never understood this advice.

Plus the wind actually picks up speed under an overpass, increasing the risk of being sucked away in the storm or injured by flying debris. Seriously, tyronosaur's advice is good -- lie flat in a ditch, facing downward, cover your head, and proceed to simultaneously pray and shit yourself. Better yet, stay indoors during a tornado warning.
