Tony Meola, the sound designer for Wicked, ended up hiding mics and speakers all over the set in the clockwork.

They also sometimes have them at the front of the stage so that the actors without mics and get picked up.

And they have mic packs hidden in their costumes. That-along with performing on a raked stage-might be a little uncomfortable at times.

They do have microphones. You can't see the microphones because they make them skin color (Elphaba's are green-she wears two, and another is in her witch hat).

They do have microphones, i saw in a documentery how they are placed in their costumes (hair usually),sometimes you can see their shadows
