the thing is man, you listen to jack's grooves like on live-evil, while stoned, his funkiness really shows; jack just uses the other parts of the kit at will to generate his funk

Let's also not forget that Jack was not the primary drummer on "On the Corner" - that was Billy Hart. Jabali played most of the main beats and Jack did most of the hi-hat and colors. Jack was never particularly tight - in the R&B/Soul sense - that Billy Hart, Ndugu, OR Al Foster was. But I think it was Jack's looseness that made his brand of funk so special. But you're also right, Miles didn't dig Ndugu all that much.

Ummmm...not so sure about NDdugu being funkier for Miles than Jack. After all JACK did play on the "On the Corner" sessions AFTER what we see in this video. Also, let's not forget that Miles FIRED Ndugu...who wasn't with the band for very long anyway.
