I agree. My mom's from Japan, and every year she watches the guy perform on New Years on NHK. As far as I'm concerned, NO ONE misses this guy when he's on TV.

You have to be familiar with the culture in Japan to understand. i don't know where you live; your cultural reference. For me, I'm American, I think of a combination of the heartfelt ballads of Johnny Cash combined with the charisma of Sinatra. There are other great Enka singers, too. I lived in Hokkaido, Japan, where Saburo-san came from. He's a ledgend there, and throughout Japan. In the video, did you notice how those young pop stars look toward him with respect and admiration. That's great!

Yeah, I remember him from the 80s. Too bad he (and all the rest! I watched the 2008 show!) has gotten so old. Maybe I should tell them my secret!
